I’m concerned by the idea that an award like summa cum laude might be used (or encouraged) to motivate such young students to pursue a particular grade point average, and lose sight of the real joy in learning (something I’ve seen in many of our students). I think the main goal of the junior high experience should be to encourage students to develop a love of learning that will sustain them through high school and the rest of their lives, something that will mean far more to them than any average or latin title.
